The rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament is quite often observed in people who have some sports activity or after an injury or accident. The MRI examination shows the general condition of the joint (ligaments/ligament). The operation is used to restore instability in the knee. Physical therapy after anterior cruciate ligament surgery is designed to help the patient regain full joint functionality and return to daily life and previous activities. The physiotherapy programme is divided into periods depending on the weeks the surgery has been performed.
After the surgery, the orthopaedic surgeon instructs the patient to immediately start his rehabilitation programme with physiotherapy sessions.
Physiotherapy sessions include a plethora of equipment and mobilization techniques for the patient's smooth progress and rehabilitation. Clearly, an important role is played by whether the patient adheres to home instructions such as (exercise, ice therapy, rest, anaerobic position). The exercise programme is individualised for each patient and the exercises are progressively increased.
